Artist Bio

David Belisle (b. 1966, Seattle) began his photography career at the age of 20, creating Hollywood-style portraits with a Pentax Honeywell 35mm camera. He attended art school briefly at Cornish in Seattle, but preferred to spend his time in the darkroom making work. In 2001, he moved to New York to become the studio manager for Michael Stipe, touring and photographing with R.E.M. for over 500 concerts. He has continued his fascination with pop culture and portraiture, honing his craft as a master printer and analog photographer. He has created album covers for bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tiny Vipers, Beach House, and others. His portraits of rock icons like Sinéad O’Connor, Patti Smith, and R.E.M. have cemented his reputation.
